CHICAGO, Feb 6, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ —
120-Physician Practice to Implement Paperless Patient Records
Solutions (Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software and
information solutions for physicians, announced today that Summit Medical Group
(SMG) in Summit, New Jersey, has selected TouchWorks(TM) clinical software for
their multi-specialty practice. The 120 providers of SMG will use TouchWorks to
manage patient charts electronically.
Using TouchWorks applications, SMG will implement a paperless virtual medical
record, enabling physicians to access and share critical patient data across
multiple locations. TouchWorks will enable SMG to bring lab results,
prescriptions, clinical notes, and even in-bound paper documentation (using
TouchWorks Scan(TM)) into a completely electronic medical record, which SMG
physicians can access anytime and anywhere they have access to the Internet.
“With TouchWorks acting as a centralized data repository, our physicians can
view and update a patient’s file without waiting for delivery of a paper chart,”
said Andrew Mintz, Executive Director of Summit Medical Group. “We believe
real-time, electronic access to the patient record is absolutely critical to
delivering patient care effectively and efficiently. TouchWorks provides a very
valuable tool for our organization.”
SMG has already started planning their implementation process and will use the
TouchWorks modular approach to the virtual medical record. Instead of the
traditional all-or-nothing implementation method, TouchWorks enables a physician
practice to start with the applications that address their most pressing needs
first, and then add more applications at the practice’s own pace.
“Summit Medical Group is committed to bringing anytime, anywhere access to their
physicians and our objective is to bring SMG physicians live on the system
quickly and effectively,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of
Allscripts Healthcare Solutions. “One of the key areas we focus on is
implementation, because rapid physician adoption is the key to a delivering a
strong return on investment.”
