SPRINGFIELD, Ill. & CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb. 7,
2006–Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical
software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use
to improve healthcare, announced today that Springfield Clinic has
selected the TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record, in a contract
valued in excess of $2 million, to further enhance the quality of
patient care provided by Springfield’s 213 physicians.
“Springfield Clinic is driven to provide the highest quality care
of any clinic in the country, and we are excited to offer our patients
the full value of the leading electronic health record,” said Michael
Maynard, Chief Executive Officer of Springfield Clinic. “Our
investment in Allscripts innovative technology is another example of
our determination to continually improve the quality and efficiency of
care that our physicians deliver.”
The Allscripts solution streamlines and improves the practice of
medicine by simplifying the work of physicians, nurses and other
healthcare professionals. Allscripts Web-based architecture shares
information through a single clinical data repository, which will
allow Springfield Clinic clinicians, across 22 locations, to instantly
access patient records as well as the latest evidence-based knowledge
when and where they need it – at the point of care.
Allscripts connectivity will also enable the physician-owned
multi-specialty group to create a centralized call center which
patients from across the region may contact with medical questions and
prescription refill requests, said Jim Hewitt, Springfield Clinic’s
Chief Information Officer. Hewitt said a key reason for selecting
Allscripts was that its electronic health record will help Springfield
clinic’s physicians adopt pay-for-performance programs that offer
financial incentives for meeting care benchmarks such as improved
outcomes for patients with diabetes and hypertension.
“There is no way we could participate in pay-for-performance
without Allscripts,” said Hewitt. “It would take a small army to pull
2,000 paper charts and analyze them to determine how well we were
doing on management of diabetes or immunizations. With Allscripts, we
can do this instantly, and we can survey and proactively manage our
entire patient population.”
Springfield Clinic will integrate Allscripts with its existing
IDX(R) Flowcast(TM) practice management solution from IDX Systems
Corporation. Allscripts and IDX, now apart of GE Healthcare, share a
strategic relationship that will directly link clinical and financial
information to support operational improvements at Springfield Clinic.
“Equipping physicians with critical information technology that is
designed to meet their needs can produce transformational results in
the healthcare of entire populations,” said Glen Tullman, Chief
Executive Officer of Allscripts. “Allscripts is proud to partner with
Springfield Clinic to deliver enhanced patient care to the communities
of Central Illinois.”
