CHICAGO & SANTA MONICA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–March 30,
2006–Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical
software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use
to improve healthcare, announced today that Santa Monica Bay
Physicians has selected the TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record to
automate and connect the group’s 32 providers.
“For a physician group of our size to grow and remain financially
stable, we simply must move forward with electronic health records,”
said Mark Needham, MD, Chief Executive Officer of the multi-specialty
group, which serves 115,000 Los Angeles-area patients each year. “The
electronic health record is the only way we can provide physicians
with the latest patient information at the point of care, as Santa
Monica Bay Physicians will be able to access the web-based technology
from any of our physician offices or from a remote location.”
The Allscripts electronic health record will enable physicians and
other healthcare professionals across 10 offices to automate common
clinical activities such as prescribing medications, ordering lab
tests, documenting patient visits, and making referrals
electronically. Allscripts improves the quality and efficiency of
patient care by providing physicians with up-to-date clinical
information and the latest decision-making guidelines when and where
they need it.
“We need to be able to have access to accurate and reliable
patient information at the time we need it and the place we need it,”
said Larry Dardick, MD, Director of Medical Information for Santa
Monica Bay Physicians. “With our multiple locations, it’s a real-world
problem that the paper chart may not be there when it’s needed. The
electronic health record creates improved continuity of care between
the office, the hospital and physicians on-call at home.”
Dardick said Santa Monica Bay selected Allscripts after nearly a
two-year search for a suitable electronic health record because
Allscripts offers a long track record of implementing and supporting
successful electronic health record solutions for groups of all sizes.
“More and more physician groups are realizing they no longer have
time to think about ‘why’ they need electronic health records because
this technology has become critical to staying competitive in today’s
healthcare market,” said Allscripts Chief Executive Officer, Glen
Tullman. “Leading medical practices like Santa Monica Bay Physicians
are proving that when physicians are informed with real-time clinical
information and connected to each other and to the wider community of
care, everyone wins.”
