Electronic Documentation to Control Costs and Improve Quality

CHICAGO, Ill., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ —
Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of
modular EMR and clinical information solutions for physicians, reported today
that Rochester Cardiopulmonary Group (RCPG), the largest private cardiology
group in the Rochester, New York, region, has successfully implemented the
initial phase of the TouchWorks(TM) modular electronic medical record
(mEMR(TM)) in less than 90 days.

Using TouchWorks Document(TM) to electronically manage their documents,
RCPG expects to drive significant savings as well as provide physicians with
better and faster access to patient data. TouchWorks Document has been proven
to decrease transcription backlog, increase support staff productivity, and
reduce overall transcription and medical records costs.

“By transmitting information electronically, TouchWorks improves the
quality of information our physicians can access at the point of care and
reduces the time our physicians spend on administrative tasks,” commented
Dr. Eduardo Arazoza, President and Chief Executive Officer of Rochester
Cardiopulmonary Group. “This solution enhances the ability of our physicians
to provide unsurpassed, comprehensive cardiovascular and pulmonary services to
our patients.”

The modular architecture of the TouchWorks solution enables rapid
implementation and improves physician adoption. As compared to traditional,
“all-or-nothing” electronic medical records, the mEMR enables practices to
start with the applications they need most and add functionality over time.

“The modular approach of TouchWorks is vital to efficient and rapid
physician adoption,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts
Healthcare Solutions. “And physician utilization is the key to real return on
investment from EMRs.”

Rochester Cardiopulmonary Group will integrate TouchWorks with their
existing IDX Group Practice Management System (GPMS(TM)). Rochester
Cardiopulmonary Group, one of the first GPMS users, has been an IDX customer
for over twenty years. The integration of TouchWorks and GPMS will directly
link clinical and financial activities and drive operational improvements.
