Accelerated Rollout of Integrated Clinical Solutions across 10 Hospitals to Create More Standardized Quality of Care, Greater Efficiency and Improved Patient Service
ATLANTA, May 03, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) –Eclipsys Corporation, (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes Company(R) and Pantai Holdings Berhad (Pantai), today announced that the Pantai group of hospitals, a 1,500 licensed-bedded network of hospitals located in Malaysia, has selected the company as its health information technology partner to create a world-class care delivery infrastructure. According to the agreement, Pantai will replace disparate legacy solutions and paper-based processes with integrated clinical components of Eclipsys’ Sunrise Enterprise(TM) 5.5 integrated suite of solutions. The major information technology initiative includes Eclipsys’ industry-leading electronic health record (EHR) solution and is designed to automate healthcare processes across Pantai’s network of 10 hospitals for more standardized quality of care, greater efficiency and improved patient service.
After a competitive search, Pantai selected Eclipsys based on its core focus in helping clients achieve meaningful outcomes and its proven track record of supporting clients in achieving high physician adoption of technologies. Eclipsys will support Pantai’s Complete Hospital And Record Management System (CHARMS). The CHARMS project is intended to address the present IT issues and challenges faced by Pantai hospital and also serve as the foundation to support a much higher standard of care quality and continuous improvements in all Pantai hospitals. It is designed to support the vision of the group to be at the forefront of the industry. The CHARMS enterprise architecture is formulated to support a centralized IT environment of having one system for all hospitals that tightly integrate the administration, financial and clinical functions.
Redefining the Quality of Care in the Region
“This major undertaking is an opportunity to redefine the quality of care in our region,” said Pantai’s Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Mohamed Khatib Abdul Hamid. “Pantai has assumed a leadership role in establishing our country as a destination to receive unparalleled healthcare quality, service and value. This initiative is in line with our efforts to continuously improve service quality and ensure excellence in healthcare delivery. By forging a meaningful relationship with Eclipsys, we have great confidence we will realize our vision to become a differentiated, high-quality regional center of care.”
As part of Pantai’s CHARMS project, Pantai will incrementally deploy Eclipsys technologies on a per facility basis beginning with its Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur utilizing Eclipsys’ accelerated “speed to value” implementation approach. This proven, repeatable implementation method is designed to significantly reduce the time and resources for system design and build. The deployed technologies will contain clinical content that leverages Eclipsys’ hundreds of successful on-time, on-budget implementations and decades of experience with a broad range of both domestic and international hospitals and health systems.
“As a group, Pantai welcomes Eclipsys and looks forward to the implementation of this important programme. Implementation also includes a series of awareness and training sessions to accelerate and encourage awareness and communications to our doctors, nurses and staff,” said Pantai’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Chan Boon Kheng.
Solutions selected by Pantai include Sunrise Acute Care(TM), Eclipsys’ industry-leading computerized physician order entry (CPOE) system, the most deeply physician-adopted CPOE system in the U.S. healthcare delivery system. Pantai’s 700 attending physicians and 2,000 nurses can expect to gain from the CPOE solution highly complex clinical decision support capabilities to enable automating even the most complex order sets and medication ordering. Combined with an integrated pharmacy information system, critical care, radiology and emergency department solutions, an integrated EHR will be created to enable clinical staff to obtain the latest patient information for more timely, more informed care decisions, as well as more efficiently complete patient charts at the point of care and track key medical procedures and medications.
Pantai also selected Eclipsys’ Sunrise Clinical Analytics(TM) business intelligence tool, which provides the foundation to support the increasing requirements of a data driven health care system. Sunrise Clinical Analytics tracks and measures clinical performance to support optimized analytics and reporting, operational decision making, as well as patient safety and quality initiatives.
Rounding out the technology initiative, Eclipsys’ portal technologies will be activated in a later phase to provide Pantai patients with self-service functionality, such as Internet access to updated health information and to view scheduled doctor appointments, while caregivers will gain seamless, secure, Web access to the patient information, regardless of whether they are in the hospital, office or home.
Commenting on the Pantai selection, Phil Pead, Eclipsys’ President and Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are honored to be selected by Pantai after a competitive process. Eclipsys’ commitment to Malaysia, our significant presence in the region, together with our industry-leading EHR were key components for the selection. This is an exciting opportunity for us as we support Pantai’s focus on redefining the quality of healthcare through the use of Sunrise Enterprise 5.5. This agreement also represents an important milestone in Eclipsys’ growing international presence.”
