ORLANDO, Fla. & CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 2, 2006–Allscripts
(Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity
and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare,
today announced that Orlando Regional Healthcare has selected
TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record to automate and connect 135
staff providers in 20 multi-specialty practices across Central
Florida.
The contract will give Orlando Regional’s providers in 20
fully-owned practices instant access to clinical records from any of
the group’s 30 locations, its seven hospitals or any web-enabled
remote location. Physicians will also have connection to the other
administrative and clinical systems in use by the network through the
health system’s physician portal.
“One of the best ways to both enhance the quality of patient care
and reduce operational costs is to equip our providers with the most
current clinical information and most recent decision-making
guidelines when and where they need it,” said Rick Schooler, Vice
President of Information Services and Chief Information Officer of
Orlando Regional Healthcare. “Our partnership with Allscripts is
further evidence of Orlando Regional Healthcare’s commitment to
providing the best possible care for Central Florida’s residents.”
Consistently ranked as one of the Top 100 “Most Wired” hospitals
in the nation, Orlando Regional Healthcare is a seven-hospital system
that includes the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando, and serves
more than 640,000 community residents and 4,500 international patients
annually. The not-for-profit, community-owned organization includes
Central Florida’s only Level One Trauma Center and is growing
steadily.
During Orlando Regional’s comprehensive, two-year EHR selection
process, Allscripts consistently led the pack of 16 competing vendors,
said Robert Reyes, who is directing the implementation for the
hospital system. “Out of 157 doctors and residents that looked at the
products, we had 150 that said Allscripts was their number one pick,”
said Reyes. “Our doctors loved TouchWorks’ flexibility and especially
its ease of use. And the Allscripts library of pre-developed clinical
content for a number of our specialties will greatly reduce
implementation time for us.”
Orlando Regional will integrate TouchWorks with the group’s new
IDX(R) Flowcast(TM) practice management system. Allscripts and IDX,
now a part of GE Healthcare, share a strategic relationship that
directly links clinical and financial information systems to support
process redesign and operational enhancements. The deal marks a new
sale for both Allscripts and IDX.
“Allscripts is proud to partner with Orlando Regional Healthcare,
ranked one of the best hospital systems in the nation, to help deliver
state-of-the-art care for the patients of Central Florida,” said
Allscripts Chief Executive Officer Glen Tullman. “Ultimately,
improving the healthcare experience requires the kind of leadership,
boldness, compassion and innovation that Orlando Regional is
demonstrating with this initiative.”
