CHICAGO & BEND, Ore.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dec. 13, 2005–Allscripts
(Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity
and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare,
today announced that Bend Memorial Clinic (BMC) has chosen the
TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record to automate and connect the
group’s 85 providers.

Founded in 1946, BMC is the largest private, multi-specialty
physician group in Oregon serving communities across Central and
Eastern Oregon, and performing 220,000 patient encounters annually.

The Allscripts solution is the centerpiece of a new, paperless
facility that BMC is opening in April of 2006 in Bend – one of two new
facilities the fast-growing physicians group plans to open next year.
BMC providers using the Allscripts’ Electronic Health Record (EHR)
will have instant access to a patient’s medical record when and where
they need it – in the clinic, at the hospital or while on-call at home
– without relying on unwieldy, error-prone paper charts.

“Allscripts provides our physicians the tools they need to deliver
the best possible patient care, while also helping us control our
costs,” said Pamela Kieffer, BMC’s Chief Operating Officer. “We can’t
continue to grow with our current paper-based operating cost
structure. The Electronic Health Record also provides the automation
we need to improve medical outcomes by enrolling patients in
preventive care guidelines, and identifying patients who may qualify
for participation in clinical trials through our Research Department.”

Allscripts’ easy-to-deploy, physician-centric technology improves
the delivery of safe, cost-effective, high-quality care by automating
common tasks such as prescribing and refilling medications, ordering
and viewing tests, and documenting care. Physicians using the
Web-based EHR reduce their reliance on expensive transcription
services and are freed from the costly burden of creating and
maintaining thousands of paper records.

“We selected Allscripts because we liked the stability of the
company,” said Kieffer, who previously worked in product development
for another EHR provider. “There are other companies that have made
good inroads in EHRs, however Allscripts has an exceptionally high
adoption rate by physicians. We wanted a system that our physicians
would embrace and that’s where Allscripts pulled ahead.”

Kieffer plans to interface Allscripts Electronic Health Record
with BMC’s existing Misys practice management system, to share
financial, demographic and clinical information across the

“The key to a successful Electronic Health Record deployment is
not just getting it installed, but ensuring that it is used by
physicians and this is where we excel. Allscripts is pleased to
partner with Bend Memorial Clinic to enhance the delivery of
high-quality care to the communities of Eastern Oregon,” said Glen
Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “The EHR will keep
BMC’s physicians informed, by providing effective and timely clinical
information, and connected, by electronically linking them to each
other and the broader community of care including hospitals, labs and
pharmacies. When physicians are informed and connected, they can
transform healthcare, improving both the efficiency and quality of
