NASHVILLE, Tenn. & CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–July 25,
2005–Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading
provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions
that physicians use to improve healthcare today announced that
Tennessee Oncology will implement TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health
Record (EHR). TouchWorks will electronically connect 37 oncologists
across 30 locations and allow them to share information and
collaborate.
While there has been a great deal of attention by the federal
government on electronic records, Tennessee Oncology concluded a
number of years ago that EHRs would become the standard of care. After
a five-year study of Electronic Health Records, Tennessee Oncology
decided to partner with Allscripts because of TouchWorks ability to
support clinical trial participation and a disease management program.
“With the increasing cost of healthcare in the United States, all
of the leading oncology groups are moving to more of a disease
management focus, and this simply can’t be done effectively without an
Electronic Health Record,” said Charles McKay, MD, Chief Executive
Officer of Tennessee Oncology. “The Allscripts EHR enables our
oncologists to customize the Electronic Health Record to their
individual needs, while at the same time supporting participation in
clinical trials.”
Tennessee Oncology will be initiating an extensive clinical trial
program and the Electronic Health Record provides the group the
ability to rapidly identify appropriate patients for potential
participation. Access to this data will also enhance Tennessee
Oncology’s ability to participate in the future in pay-for-performance
initiatives.
“Tennessee Oncology is an acknowledged leader in oncology and a
key part of Allscripts specialty market focus,” said Glen Tullman,
Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “We expect to work closely with
Tennessee Oncology to build upon the success of TouchWorks and add
functionality unique to oncology, while at the same time enhancing our
clinical trial and disease management capabilities.”
Tennessee Oncology will integrate TouchWorks with its existing
IDX(R) Groupcast(TM) practice management solution from IDX Systems
Corporation. Allscripts and IDX share a 10-year strategic relationship
that will directly link clinical and financial information to support
operational improvements at Tennessee Oncology.
