CINCINNATI & CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 26, 2005-- Cincinnati Eye Institute to Eliminate Paper Charts Across Multiple Locations
Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading
provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions
that physicians use to improve healthcare today announced that
Cincinnati Eye Institute has selected Allscripts to electronically
connect their physicians across 20 locations.
Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI) has been providing medical and
surgical eye care to patients in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana for over
50 years. With the Cincinnati Eye Institute’s 45 physicians working
across multiple locations, patient chart availability created constant
challenges. Due to the complexity of multiple locations and
transporting charts, CEI realized that a more stable environment was
needed.
After spending more than a year studying and comparing Electronic
Health Records, Cincinnati Eye Institute’s project managers, Deborah
Kinney and Marsha Wylie, found that Allscripts allowed for the most
flexible approach to implementation and development.
TouchChart Electronic Health Record is designed for the unique
needs of independent physician practices. Built upon the solid
foundation of Allscripts award-winning document imaging and management
solution, formerly known as Impact.MD, Cincinnati Eye Institute will
initially implement the document imaging and scan capabilities to
quickly gain physician utilization and realize a rapid return on
investment and then move to other modules.
“Cincinnati Eye Institute first explored a redesign of our paper
record,” said Rodney Roeser, President and Chief Administrative
Officer of Cincinnati Eye Institute. “However, we quickly realized
that would only be a temporary fix to the growing problem. Allscripts
Electronic Health Record does not require our physicians to change the
way they practice. The hybrid design of a scanning solution and an
Electronic Health Record allows our physicians to continue practicing
eye care as they do now with little change, and offers those who
choose to advance quickly to the Electronic Health Record environment
a seamless transition.”
In addition to improving CEI’s clinical needs, utilizing an
Electronic Health Record will have a significant cost savings impact
by eliminating courier fees incurred for chart transportation between
offices, reducing paper chart costs and staff salaries, and overall
improving efficiencies in the practice.
“As one of the largest ophthalmology practices in the United
States, Cincinnati Eye Institute, required a clinical information
system that would allow them flexibility to implement quickly without
impacting their ability to see patients,” said Glen Tullman, Chief
Executive Officer of Allscripts. “Ophthalmologists have specific needs
when it comes to an Electronic Health Record. TouchChart allows
physicians to learn at their own pace with the adoption of individual
modules.”
