CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aug. 1, 2006–Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX),
the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and
information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today
announced that Novant Health has selected the TouchWorks(TM)
Electronic Health Record to automate and connect all of their 587
employed physicians across 141 locations in North Carolina and South
Carolina. The contract, in excess of $6 million, marks the largest
single TouchWorks deal in Allscripts history.

Novant Health serves 3.4 million residents in 34 counties and is
comprised of physician medical groups and eight hospitals:
Presbyterian Hospital, Presbyterian Orthopaedic Hospital, Presbyterian
Hospital Matthews and Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville in the
Charlotte region; Forsyth Medical Center and Medical Park Hospital in
Winston-Salem; Thomasville Medical Center in Thomasville; and
Brunswick Community Hospital in Supply, NC.

“Novant Health is committed to providing the highest possible
quality of care to ensure patient safety and patient satisfaction, and
we feel the Allscripts Electronic Health Record will help us deliver
on those commitments,” said Rich McKnight, Senior Vice President and
Chief Information Officer of Novant Health. “TouchWorks, through
analysis of outcomes and the ability to make continuous improvements,
will enable us to demonstrate to our patients that exceptional care is
available at every Novant location.”

Novant will implement the full TouchWorks Electronic Health Record, as well as the TouchWorks
Analytics module, which drives clinical excellence by measuring key
performance indicators, managing pay-for-performance initiatives,
supporting clinical trials, and providing patient population
management. Novant will be able to quickly access key performance
indicators such as patient outcomes and receive automatic alerts when
key indicators fall out of range.

After a year-long review of Electronic Health Record vendors,
Novant selected Allscripts for its strong track record of successfully
partnering with hundreds of physician groups to deliver high quality
medical care.

“Allscripts depth of experience and breadth of expertise gave us
confidence that we can successfully transition from a paper medical
record to a state-of-the-art Electronic Health Record,” said A.J.
Patefield, MD, a pulmonologist and critical care physician who is
co-president of one of Novant’s physician divisions and executive
physician sponsor of the Electronic Health Record. “We won’t
compromise on excellence in patient care, so we needed a partner with
clients our size who had successfully transitioned to electronic
records. And Allscripts has clearly demonstrated that ability.”

Novant will replace its existing ambulatory practice management
systems with the Centricity Business (formerly IDX(R) Flowcast(TM))
revenue cycle management system, which will be integrated with
TouchWorks. Allscripts and IDX, now a part of GE Healthcare, share a
strategic relationship that directly links clinical and financial
information systems to support process redesign and operational

“Our selection by an organization that is renowned for its
commitment to improving the quality and safety of patient care
demonstrates the strength and breadth of our TouchWorks Electronic
Health Record,” commented Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of
Allscripts. “We appreciate the opportunity to bring world class
information and connectivity to Novant’s physicians and their patients
throughout the region. With our HealthMatics group located in North
Carolina, this win is especially important because our own employees,
many of whom are treated by Novant, will receive better care.”
