MIDLAND, Texas & CHICAGO, May 01, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of
clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that
physicians use to improve healthcare today announced that Midland
Memorial Hospital will implement the HealthMatics(R) ED Emergency
Department Information System to automate its emergency services.
Midland Memorial said the Allscripts solution will enhance patient
safety, improve clinical documentation and optimize provider access to
patient information in the hospital’s Emergency Department and beyond.
“Not only will HealthMatics ED benefit our patients, but it will
allow our Emergency Department staff to work more efficiently by
enabling better information flow within the ED, between the ED and the
rest of the hospital, and with providers outside of Midland Memorial,”
said Lawrence Sanz, Chief Financial Officer of Midland Memorial
Hospital. “We also expect HealthMatics will improve productivity,
increase our capture of accurate charges and speed patient throughput
in the ED.”
Midland Memorial selected Allscripts HealthMatics ED after an
18-month search based on its comprehensive functionality, 24-hour
customer support and proven success at similar hospitals across the
country. Midland Memorial expects the system, which incorporates
web-based technology to provide remote access to patient records, will
enhance patient tracking, improve access to patient information,
improve clinical documentation and billing, and boost patient safety
through electronic order entry and prescription management.
“We have worked with other electronic documentation systems, but
none holds the promise of Allscripts,” said Lawrence Wilson, MD,
FACEP, Medical Director of Emergency Medicine at Midland Memorial.
“HealthMatics ED enables providers to document at the bedside,
allowing for better decisions where every minute counts. Allscripts
also provides order entry and patient tracking while collecting
patient care metrics to help us improve quality and productivity. It’s
the complete package.”
HealthMatics ED will interface with existing hospital systems,
including the Precision 2000 Admit-Discharge-Transfer (ADT) system by
McKesson, Radiology and PACS system from GE/IDX, and the OpenVista lab
and clinical patient record system by Medsphere Systems Corporation.
The interface to the hospital’s inpatient Electronic Health Record is
especially important since clinical information will be electronically
transferred as discrete data, eliminating data re-entry by providers
and enabling access to patient chart information across the hospital.
“We are proud to partner with Midland Memorial Hospital to help
them provide the best possible emergency care for the patients of the
Midland community,” said Glen Tullman, Allscripts Chief Executive
Officer. “Midland Memorial Hospital’s willingness to invest in
enhancing patient care in this vital setting is further evidence of
their standing as the premier acute care provider in Texas’s Permian
Basin.”
