Large Minnesota Multi-Specialty Group Automates and Connects Physicians, Improves Quality Management
CHICAGO and MANKATO, Minn., Feb. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Allscripts,
the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information
solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that
Mankato Clinic has selected the Allscripts Electronic Health Record (EHR) to
connect and automate clinical tasks for their 113 multi-specialty physicians
and practitioners, and enhance their quality initiatives.

The Mankato Clinic is one of the largest physician-owned practices in
Minnesota, with clinics in six communities across a 70-mile area that together
handled nearly 400,000 patient visits in 2007.
“The Mankato Clinic is committed to making healthcare more efficient and
effective for our patients, and the implementation of Allscripts is a major
step in that direction,” said Roger Greenwald, Chief Executive Officer of
Mankato Clinic. “With the electronic health record, our patients can expect
quicker, more seamless care as well as improvements in our ability to track
and improve the quality of care we deliver.”
The Electronic Health Record from Allscripts will replace paper
recordkeeping for the Mankato Clinic by automating everyday clinical tasks
such as prescribing medications, ordering and viewing laboratory tests, and
documenting patient care. The solution also will connect Mankato Clinic
physicians and other caregivers to laboratories, pharmacies, insurers and
other key healthcare stakeholders, while delivering secure, immediate access
to patient information at the point of care — whether in the office, at the
hospital or remotely.
Mankato Clinic selected Allscripts after a five-year research process that
was driven in part by a state law requiring all Minnesota healthcare providers
to have an interconnected Electronic Health Record by 2015. The Clinic
selected Allscripts because the group’s physicians were convinced it is the
most advanced and intuitive Electronic Health Record.
Mark Matthias, M.D., Mankato Clinic’s Chief Medical Officer, also praised
the EHR’s ability to automate and measure specific quality initiatives.
“Allscripts enables us to query patient records to review key clinical
evaluation criteria such as disease, age, sex, prescribing drug, and so on, to
more quickly and efficiently learn where quality improvement opportunities
exist,” Dr. Matthias said.
The system is designed to enhance the way individual physicians practice
medicine, automatically tracking key patient outcomes, providing the
information needed to improve the effectiveness of disease management, health
maintenance, and care planning initiatives.
“We’re excited that the Mankato Clinic has chosen Allscripts as their
technology partner to bring better quality and efficiency to the thousands of
patients they serve in Minnesota,” said Allscripts Chief Executive Officer
Glen Tullman. “It’s time intensive and limiting to track and measure quality
care without an electronic health record, and our partnership is a sign of the
Mankato Clinic’s investment in the future of medicine and the health of their
patients.”
To connect Mankato Clinic’s financial and clinical functions, the practice
will integrate Allscripts with its existing practice management system from
McKesson Corporation.
