LEESBURG, Va. & CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–July 7, 2005–Allscripts
Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical
software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use
to improve healthcare today announced that Loudoun Medical Group (LMG)
will connect its physicians across dozens of locations in the
Washington, D.C. area using TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record
(EHR). After a detailed two-year review of EHRs, Loudoun selected
TouchWorks based on its broad functionality, connectivity, and the
successful utilization rate across the Allscripts client base.

As a premier physician-owned, multi-specialty group based in
Leesburg, Virginia, Loudoun needed an Electronic Health Record that
was designed to handle the needs of a fast growing medical group and
community, both in terms of architecture and future demands. With more
than 100 providers across 40 locations, Loudoun Medical Group has
plans to add more locations and providers.

“Loudoun Medical Group is expecting significant growth in the
number of providers as well as new specialties in the next year
alone,” said James Lapsley, Chief Executive Officer of Loudoun Medical
Group. “With this rapid growth and the fact that Loudoun County is one
of the fastest growing areas in the nation, our physicians demanded an
easy to learn, easy to use, interoperable Electronic Health Record.
TouchWorks met our requirements and added significant efficiency and
patient safeguards.”

Due to the size of the medical group and the geographic
dispersion, retaining and processing medical records manually created
many challenges.

With the full implementation of the EHR, Loudoun will provide
physicians instant access to patient medical charts from any of their
locations, at any time. Physicians will also reduce the amount of time
it takes to receive and review laboratory results and send
prescriptions to pharmacists through a secure electronic network.

“As a leader in their community, the physicians at Loudoun Medical
Group wanted an Electronic Health Record that would meet and exceed
the standards coming out of Washington, especially as it relates to
interoperability,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of
Allscripts. “Now Loudoun physicians will not only be able to provide a
higher level of patient care, but also create a more seamless
patient-physician experience.”

With their practices located throughout the Washington, D.C. area,
the physicians of LMG felt that the focus of the federal government on
electronically transforming healthcare provided a pathway to the
future. Loudoun decided that the time to take action was now and that
Allscripts, with its well-documented leadership in the industry, would
be the right partner to ensure that they stay ahead of any future
requirements and changes within the industry.
