CHICAGO & TUCSON, Ariz.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–April 26,
2005–Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading
provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions
that physicians use to improve healthcare, announced that University
Physicians Healthcare has selected the TouchWorks(TM) Electronic
Health Record (EHR) for 260 of the 350 University Physicians
Healthcare physicians, in a contract estimated at approximately $3
million. The Allscripts solution will provide physicians instant
access to their patients’ medical information anywhere at anytime.
For the past two years, University Physicians Healthcare (UPH) has
been studying the use of EHRs in academic medical groups. The
experience of Allscripts in this environment was a key factor in UPH’s
selection of Allscripts. Additionally, the implementation of
TouchWorks will provide UPH the ability to expand. For almost
20-years, UPH has shown continuous growth, with physicians who
practice at the University of Arizona in addition to multiple
community-based clinics.
“Last June, University Physicians Healthcare purchased a local
hospital that increased our patient base by 25 percent,” said Norm
Botsford, President and Chief Executive Officer of University
Physicians Healthcare. “We anticipate that number to climb, so we made
the decision to implement an electronic health record that would allow
our physicians to share patient charts across clinic locations and
with our hospitals. TouchWorks is clearly a proven solution for
academic medical groups. It addresses the complex needs of our
organization and provides UPH the ability to completely eliminate the
paper chart and deliver more efficient and higher quality care to the
200,000 patients we serve on an annual basis.”
As the largest physician group in Arizona, UPH required a solution
that works seamlessly across multiple locations. The web-based
TouchWorks EHR will connect UPH physicians with each other as well as
with outside laboratories and pharmacies, allowing physicians to
electronically order and view lab tests and send prescriptions.
“University Physicians Healthcare is not only the largest
physician group in Arizona, but one of the fastest growing, which
makes physician connectivity a mission critical requirement,” said
Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “TouchWorks
allows UPH to connect physicians from multiple locations, and bridge
the gap between hospital information and the ambulatory world.”
UPH will integrate TouchWorks with its existing Flowcast(TM)
revenue cycle management solution from IDX Systems Corporation. The
integration of TouchWorks and Flowcast will directly link clinical and
financial activities and drive operational improvements and is backed
by a 10-year strategic relationship between IDX and Allscripts.
