PITTSBURGH & CHICAGO, Nov 21, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of
clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that
physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that the
TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record and the TouchScript(TM)
e-prescribing application meet the requirements to participate in the
Highmark eHealth Collaborative from The Pittsburgh Foundation.
Highmark Inc., one of the nation’s largest health insurers and an
independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association,
contributed $26.5 million to The Pittsburgh Foundation to fund the
Highmark eHealth Collaborative, an organization that will encourage
adoption of health information technology. Electronic health records
and e-prescribing have been chosen as the first project of the
Collaborative because of its direct impact on patient safety.
The Highmark eHealth Collaborative will pay up to 75 percent of
the cost for participating physicians, with a maximum of $7,000 per
physician. To receive funding, physicians in Western and Central
Pennsylvania must be licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania,
must be a licensed prescriber and complete an online application.
Allscripts is one of only two approved vendors who have been
certified, as they meet the functionality requirements to participate
in the Collaborative. Allscripts develops and markets the industry’s
most trusted and widely used e-prescribing software in the United
States.
“Allscripts applauds Highmark and The Pittsburgh Foundation for
taking on the initiative to transform healthcare in the State of
Pennsylvania,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of
Allscripts. “Allscripts is very pleased to be a part of this
Collaborative to drive the utilization of information technology in
healthcare. Our solution can be implemented in a modular fashion, with
e-prescribing serving as the first step towards adoption of a full
electronic health record.”
