Pennsylvania Health System’s Expanded Agreement to Cover Two Hospitals and 70 Community Locations

.

CHICAGO and MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa., Aug. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ —Heritage Valley Health System, a progressive community-based health system in southwestern Pennsylvania, selected the Sunrise Enterprise(TM) suite of clinical, access management and performance management solutions from Allscripts (NASDAQ: MDRX) to improve patient care by providing a single integrated technology backbone across its two hospital campuses and more than 70 community-based patient care locations.

As part of the agreement, Heritage Valley will transition from its existing inpatient clinical information system, accelerating its strategy of using cost-effective and connectivity-oriented technology solutions to achieve national leadership in patient care. Allscripts will connect the Sunrise suite to the Allscripts Enterprise(TM) Electronic Health Record currently in use by Heritage Valley’s 200 employed physicians. The added connectivity will enhance the safety and coordination of patient care by allowing caregivers in the hospital and physician’s office to share a unified up-to-date patient record.

“Heritage Valley Health System is a model for healthcare organizations across the country who want to leverage the power of real-time information to transform the care process and improve their performance,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer, Allscripts. “As healthcare moves inevitably toward the value-driven care model to improve quality and remove cost, Heritage Valley will be able to meet the challenge with our full Sunrise suite and ambulatory Electronic Health Record, enabling them to coordinate care across their enterprise.”

Sunrise Enterprise includes the industry’s most utilized Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) as well as integrated pharmacy, critical care and emergency department solutions, creating a comprehensive acute care Electronic Health Record (EHR). Sunrise also will help Heritage Valley gain significant operational and financial improvements by providing integrated access management, revenue cycle, budgeting and strategic planning solutions.

Allscripts and Heritage Valley will integrate the acute care functions of Sunrise with the health system’s award-winning mobile solutions, including handheld devices that clinicians use to view patient medical records, and radio frequency identification (RFID) tags to quickly verify clinicians’ identities. This integration allows physicians who are visiting their patients in the hospital to quickly view expanded radiology images simply by touching their RFID-equipped handheld to any desktop computer. That simple process initiates an automatic log-in, opening an expanded view of their handheld device’s Electronic Health Record, including radiology images.

“Allscripts has been a strong partner of Heritage Valley Health System for some time, and we expect that this expansion of our relationship will validate our board’s vision and historical commitment to equipping our providers with an integrated, easy-to-use platform of the most innovative information technologies in healthcare,” said Norm Mitry, President and Chief Executive Officer, Heritage Valley Health System. “By delivering the right information in the right place at the right time, we will help our providers collaborate on and coordinate care across our community, enhancing the quality of care for our patients.”
