Companies to Combine Expertise of Healthvision ASP and Interoperability Capabilities for RHIOs with Award-Winning Allscripts Electronic Health Record
IRVING, Texas & CHICAGO, Nov 15, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Healthvision, a leading health information technology company, and
Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software,
connectivity, and information solutions that physicians use to improve
healthcare, today announced an alliance to offer a set of solutions to
providers and community-based initiatives, including regional health
information organizations (RHIOs).
Under this new alliance, Healthvision will begin offering the
Allscripts TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record (EHR) solution as
part of Healthvision’s Interoperability Exchange. Providers will have
the option to utilize the full electronic health record or start with
a number of modules, including e-prescribing, and seamlessly add more
features in the future. The new arrangement enables Healthvision to
provide more robust EHR services to practices that participate in the
Healthvision Interoperability Exchange for Regional Health Information
Organizations (RHIOs). It will also enable Allscripts to leverage
Healthvision’s experience in providing ASP web services to physicians
resulting in a new ASP service model offering of its award-winning EHR
and ePrescribing solutions.
This new functionality will be offered as part of the Healthvision
Interoperability Exchange announced earlier this year. The Exchange is
designed specifically to create an interconnected, comprehensive
electronic health record of both inpatient and ambulatory data. That
data is then accessible to the patient’s care team either through
their EMR or EHR applications or through Web-based viewers.
Healthvision’s architecture ensures private and secure data exchange
while providing a patient-centric data repository from multiple
sources.
Michael Leavitt, the Secretary of Health and Human Services and
Dr. David Brailer, M.D. PhD., the National Coordinator of Health
Information Technology, have highlighted the importance of
interoperability as a “fundamental requirement for the health care
system to derive the societal benefits promised by the adoption of
electronic medical records (EMRs)”. Dr. Brailer stated, “Without
interoperability, EMR adoption will further strengthen the information
silos that exist in today’s paper-based medical files, resulting in
even greater proprietary control over health information.”(1)
“We are excited to partner with Allscripts to provide a set of
hosted clinical solutions and to include the TouchWorks EHR as our
first hosted EHR connected to the Healthvision Interoperability
Exchange,” said Scott Decker, Chief Executive Officer and President of
Healthvision. “Our combined solutions radically simplify the art,
science and process of caring for patients.”
Already benefiting from the new relationship between Healthvision
and Allscripts is The Adirondack Regional Community Health Exchange
(ARCHIE), a newly formed RHIO in upstate New York. ARCHIE will now
have the ability to provide a shared medical record health information
exchange so that physicians can view a patient’s complete medical
record.
ARCHIE’s initial members include a 200-physician independent
physician organization (IPA) and the Glens Falls Hospital, a 225-bed
facility located in Glens Falls, New York. Glens Falls Hospital is the
sole, comprehensive, acute care community hospital serving a
2,600-square-mile, predominantly rural region encompassing Warren,
Washington, Hamilton, Essex and northern Saratoga counties of Upstate
New York.
“The new Healthvision and Allscripts solution includes the best
features of their collective product lines to provide an adaptive
solution for physicians,” said Patricia L Hale, M.D., PhD., FACP,
Chief Medical Informatics Officer for Glen Falls Hospital, New York, a
Healthvision customer. “The robust and scalable features of TouchWorks
combined with the easy ASP implementation of Healthvision will deliver
the best available choice for physicians who want anytime, anywhere
access to clinical information.”
Healthvison is committed to working with all EMR and EHR vendors
to extend the value of interoperability to the entire provider team.
EMR and EHR vendors are encouraged to join the exchange, which
requires a certification process. For more information, go to
www.healthvision.com.
“Through our partnership with Healthvision, we can now provide a
platform for RHIOs and connect communities to build an environment of
collaborative care,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of
Allscripts. “We also have the capability through Healthvision’s ASP to
offer a hosted EHR solution to our clients.”
