Houston medical group will deploy combined solution to 150 physiciansCHICAGO and HOUSTON, Aug 06, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ — Allscripts
(Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and
information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, announced
today that Electronic Medical Resources will provide the Allscripts Electronic
Health Record (EHR) and practice management solutions to physicians in
Independent Practice Associations (IPAs) nationwide. The two companies also
announced that IntegraNet, an IPA representing some 1,000 primary care and
specialty physicians in the Houston area, has agreed to deploy the Allscripts
solutions via Electronic Medical Resources, initially for 150 physicians.

Electronic Medical Resources is an Application Service Provider (ASP) that
hosts and supports clinical and practice management software for physicians.
The company was formed specifically to sell, deploy and support Electronic
Health Records and practice management systems for IPAs. Allscripts is their
first product offering.
“This agreement with Allscripts addresses one of most important issues
that IPAs face nationally — if they’re not clinically integrated and able to
share information and measure quality across all of their specialties with an
Electronic Health Record, then they will not be able to survive,” said Ed
Horn, President of Electronic Medical Resources. “Our physician clients are
very excited by the prospect of using Allscripts via our ASP model to improve
patient care and better manage their practices.”
IntegraNet President Larry Wedekind said he, too, is convinced that
Electronic Health Records are vital to the success of IPAs. “Without an
Electronic Health Record it’s almost impossible for an IPA to cost effectively
measure each doctor’s performance and to ensure that they provide the highest
quality care,” said Wedekind.
IntegraNet plans eventually to implement Allscripts for several hundred of
its physicians, Wedekind added. To encourage utilization, IntegraNet will
provide physicians who adopt the Electronic Health Record up to a 25 percent
premium on their annual IPA bonus — a figure that Wedekind estimated could
amount to as much as $60 to $120 per patient.
The Allscripts Electronic Health Record enables physicians to instantly
access patient information when and where they need it — in the clinic, at
the hospital or while on-call at home. The web-based solution speeds and
automates everyday clinical tasks such as prescribing and refilling
medications, ordering and viewing tests, and documenting care. The Allscripts
practice management solution combines sophisticated scheduling and Revenue
Cycle Management tools in a single package and incorporates advanced features
such as rule-based appointment scheduling, multi-resource and recurring
appointment features, referral and eligibility indicators, and appointment and
claims management.
Electronic Medical Resources selected Allscripts from among 15 vendors for
the company’s stability, its strong commitment to the interoperability of its
solutions, and “the quality of their leadership, which is really dedicated to
the mission of improving healthcare through information technology,” said
Horn.
“We’re excited to partner with Electronic Medical Resources to deliver our
Electronic Health Record and practice management solutions to physicians in
IPAs across the country,” said Allscripts Chief Executive Officer Glen
Tullman. “Our joint agreement with IntegraNet is a strong indication that
innovative IPAs will turn to alternative delivery methods, such as the ASP, as
a means of improving the quality of care their physicians deliver and
ultimately lowering the cost of care.”
