Designation Verifies Hospitals’ Documentation of Excellence and High Degree of Nurse Satisfaction;
Nearly Half of Magnet Hospitals Use Eclipsys More Than Any Other Vendor

ATLANTA, Apr 06, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) –Eclipsys Corporation (NASDAQ: ECLP), The Outcomes Company(R), today announced that clients’ Blessing Hospital of Quincy, IL and University Health System of San Antonio, TX were recently awarded Magnet Recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The Magnet Recognition Program was developed by the ANCC to recognize healthcare organizations that provide not only excellence in nursing, but also the highest quality of patient care at all levels throughout the hospital. The term “Magnet” refers to the ability of a recognized organization to attract and retain professional nurses who experience a high degree of satisfaction in their workplace and attract patients in search of the best healthcare. Based upon submission of thousands of pages of documentation, in late 2009 ANCC granted both Blessing Hospital and University Health System a three-day site visit, during which nurse appraisers verified each hospital’s documentation of excellence. Nationally, only one in five hospitals applying for Magnet recognition is granted a site survey.

A Medical and Technology Leader in West Central Illinois

“This is the gold standard for Nursing. The Magnet Recognition validates that Blessing Hospital is one of the best places to give and receive care,” said Jill Mason, RN, MSN, chief nursing officer of Blessing Hospital.

With Eclipsys(TM) clinical information technology in use at the organization since 2004, Blessing Hospital has become a medical and technology leader in West Central Illinois. The hospital has achieved significant outcomes improvements, including high-levels of physician adoption of technology and improved patient safety through medication reconciliation processes and use of electronic prescriptions. These Eclipsys solutions have better connected Blessing clinicians throughout the enterprise and remotely, providing access to real-time patient information for improved decision making.

“This is the most significant, voluntary recognition of quality a hospital can earn,” said Maureen Kahn, RN, MHA, MSN, president and chief executive officer of Blessing Hospital. “The ANCC grants Magnet status only after one of the most thorough review processes in which I have ever been involved. Magnet hospitals are the best of the best.”

First and only in South Texas to earn Magnet Status

University Health System implemented the integrated clinical components of Eclipsys’ Sunrise Enterprise(TM) solution in 2003 to provide a complete electronic medical record (EMR) across its entire healthcare organization. The advanced functionality and open design of this solution is the centerpiece of the health system’s electronic health record (EHR), providing coordinated care and superior outcomes as clinicians seamlessly manage patient information across ambulatory and inpatient environments. After a five-year “Magnet Journey,” the organization successfully demonstrated its commitment to providing quality care for all patients, sustaining nursing excellence and transforming the culture of its work environment through the use of Eclipsys solutions. University Health System is the first and only health system in San Antonio and South Texas to earn Magnet status from the ANCC.

“We are an organization committed to quality, compassion and innovation, and this recognition demonstrates how these ideals are more than just healthcare terms, but words we take to heart in everything we do,” said George B. Hernández, Jr., president and chief executive officer of University Health System. “Our Board of Managers set the bar high and challenged us to be the best of the best. Today, we let them know we have reached this mark and have our sights set on the next one.”

In 2008, University Health System also achieved a validated Stage 6 ranking in the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption ModelSM (EMRAM), a recognition program that tracks EMR progress at hospitals and health systems. The EMRAM scores hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database on their progress in completing the eight stages to creating a paperless patient record environment.

Eclipsys’ Clients Consistently Recognized as Top Healthcare Organizations

“We are very proud that Blessing Hospital and University Health System have undertook the tremendous amount of voluntary work to document how they are providing the best quality of care for their patients,” said Jay Deady, Eclipsys’ executive vice president of Client Solutions. “We also are proud that users of Eclipsys’ clinical information system dominate the field of Magnet Recognition hospitals. Just six percent of the nation’s hospitals have earned the impressive Magnet status, and Eclipsys clients represent 45 percent of those organizations. It is yet another proof point of the industry leadership demonstrated by our client base and how they are on the forefront of utilizing advanced healthcare information technology to provide high-quality, cost-effective care.”
