CHICAGO & MANCHESTER, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aug. 1,
2006–Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical
software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use
to improve healthcare, today announced that Eastern Connecticut Health
Network, Inc. (ECHN) will implement the HealthMatics(R) Emergency
Department Information System (EDIS) to automate its emergency
services. Allscripts valued the contract at $1.5 million.
The solution, from Allscripts subsidiary A4 Health Systems,
enhances patient safety, improves clinical documentation, and breaks
down the information walls between the inpatient setting and the
outpatient ED, providing ECHN caregivers access to vital patient
information no matter where it resides. HealthMatics ED’s Remote Chart
Access also allows community caregivers and hospital staff to securely
access a patient’s chart remotely.
“With HealthMatics ED, ECHN will be able to provide a smoother
delivery process for the more than 65,000 patients who walk through
our doors annually,” said Charles F. Covin, Vice President and Chief
Information Officer of ECHN, a not-for-profit system that includes
Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 249-bed acute care facility in
Manchester, and 102-bed Rockville General Hospital in Vernon, CT.
“HealthMatics ED will electronically streamline processes for the
entire Emergency Department including tracking, triage, nurse and
physician charting, and reporting.”
Eastern Connecticut Health Network selected HealthMatics ED
https://www.allscripts.com/slnsEmrgDept.aspx after a two-year search
because of its robust functionality, which Covin said would enable the
system to operate the Emergency Departments at its two hospitals in a
nearly “paperless” fashion. Additionally, ECHN was impressed with
HealthMatics ability to seamlessly integrate with the organization’s
inpatient Computerized Patient Order Entry (CPOE) system by MEDITECH.
“Admissions from our two Emergency Departments account for more
than 50 percent of all our hospital admissions,” said Robert Carroll,
MD, Chair and Medical Director of the Department of Emergency
Medicine. “To ensure the safety of our patients, it was critical that
elements of the ED record be extracted and imported as discreet data
into our current in-patient electronic record.”
Allscripts Chief Executive Officer Glen Tullman commented:
“Eastern Connecticut Health Network is a proven leader in heath
information technology adoption and Allscripts is proud to partner
with them to provide the residents and visitors of the greater
Hartford area a more seamless patient experience. HealthMatics ED
allows ECHN’s ED staff to work more efficiently by enabling better
information flow within the ED, between the ED and the rest of the
hospital, and with providers outside of the hospital.”
