CHICAGO, and LANHAM, Md., March 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Allscripts
(Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and
information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today
announced that Doctors Community Hospital has selected the HealthMatics(R) ED
Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) to automate operations and
improve access to patient information for its more than 50,000 annual
emergency room visits.

Doctors Community is a 186-bed acute care medical and surgical hospital in
the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC that has been repeatedly ranked as one
of “America’s Best Hospitals” by U.S. News and World Report. HealthMatics ED
( https://www.allscripts.com/healthmaticsed ) will streamline processes for the
hospital’s entire Emergency Department, including patient tracking and triage,
nurse and physician charting, reporting and disposition.

“Allscripts will improve our workflow, make optimum use of staff time, and
greatly improve our ability to meet and exceed the expectations of our
patients in the Emergency Department,” said Alan Johnson, Chief Information
Officer for Doctors Community. “We also expect that HealthMatics will improve
patient safety through its alerts, visual prompts, direct provider order-
entry, automated care plans, and templates that help ensure comprehensive
documentation. Additionally, the accuracy of our billing will improve since
it will be an automatic byproduct of the system and much less a manual process
subject to human error.”

After years of analyzing EDIS vendors, Doctors Community selected
HealthMatics ED because the system provides comprehensive functionality with a
track record of success at hospitals of all sizes across the country.

“We looked at a number of systems and, ultimately, we felt Allscripts was
well beyond the ‘promise’ stage, with a solution that would deliver immediate
results,” said Johnson. “The return on investment with this product is
excellent, meaning that every month we let go by without it is truly a lost
opportunity.”

Doctors Community will connect HealthMatics ED with its existing inpatient
health information system from Meditech, enabling full interoperability of all
clinical and financial information within the hospital. The Allscripts system
also enables affiliated physicians outside the hospital to quickly determine
the treatment and medications their patients received in the Emergency
Department. Community physicians will be able to access Emergency Department
records for their patients through the hospital’s Citrix physician portal
linked to HealthMatics ED.

“Emergency department physicians need immediate access to up-to-date and
accurate clinical information to make quick decisions under the toughest of
circumstances,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “By
selecting HealthMatics ED, Doctors Community Hospital is providing their
physicians on the front lines with the tools to make the best and safest
treatment decisions and to connect with the patient’s ongoing care.”
