Leading Heart and Lung Center Automates Charge Capture for Physicians

decision support tools for physicians, announced today that Deborah Heart and
Lung Center (Deborah), a specialty teaching hospital with 65 physicians on
staff, has signed a multi-year agreement for TouchWorks(TM) applications. Using
handheld HP iPAQ Pocket PC’s running on a wireless local area network, Deborah
will automate capturing charges with the TouchWorks Charge(TM) module and access
clinical reference information at the point of care using the Pocket Library(TM)
drug reference guide.
After conducting an internal analysis of their current billing procedure,
Deborah determined that their practice was potentially failing to capture up to
10 percent of its evaluation and management charges and viewed TouchWorks as a
key component of the solution.

operational improvements by more directly linking clinical and financial
activities. For example, using a handheld device, doctors can enter patient
encounter related information (diagnosis codes, procedure codes, visit charges
and modifiers) at the point of care using TouchWorks Charge and then have the
data submitted wirelessly to BAR to ensure accurate and timely billing, which
helps eliminate lost charges and delays from paper-driven processes.
