CHICAGO & OKLAHOMA CITY, Apr 21, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq:MDRX), the
leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information
solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, announced that
Dean McGee Eye Institute has selected Allscripts’ TouchWorks(TM)
Electronic Health Record (EHR) to help the Institute’s 35
ophthalmologists automate critical tasks to provide more efficient and
higher quality care to their patients.
Ophthalmologists have unique needs when it comes to using EHRs.
Dean McGee Eye Institute (DMEI) and Allscripts will be working
together to integrate many of the special ophthalmology features and
functionality from Penn Medical Informatics Systems’ EyeDoc, a special
product line designed specifically to meet the needs of
ophthalmologists.
“For more than a year, DMEI has been studying all EHR products
available and we chose Allscripts because of their stability and their
forward looking approach to the Electronic Health Record,” said David
W. Parke II, MD, DMEI President and Chief Executive Officer. “Our
physicians have unique needs when it comes to an EHR, including
imaging and specific drawing requirements. This partnership will allow
us to help guide integration of EyeDoc into TouchWorks, which will not
only help DMEI, but ophthalmologists across the country.”
With the use of the award-winning TouchWorks EHR, DMEI
ophthalmologists will have instant access to patient records through
hand held Tablets PCs and workstations in the exam room.
DMEI is in the process of a capital campaign to raise $30 million
in efforts to build a second major facility. Plans are to break ground
for the multi-million dollar building in 2006. Once open, the new
facility will dramatically increase the number of patients served with
the use of TouchWorks EHR and EyeDoc.
“Rated as one of the Top 10 ophthalmology practices in the U.S.,
Dean McGee Eye Institute is continuously working to reach a higher
standard and their decision to implement TouchWorks is another step in
that direction,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of
Allscripts. “We’re excited about combining the strength and
functionality of our TouchWorks Electronic Health Record with the
expertise of the Dean McGee ophthalmologists and the specialty
functionality in the EyeDoc system. We believe that strong
partnerships, with clients and other providers, will produce great
results and accelerate our efforts to deliver even more value to
physicians.”
DMEI will integrate TouchWorks with its existing Groupcast(TM)
practice management solution from IDX Systems Corporation. IDX and
Allscripts have a 10-year strategic relationship that directly links
clinical and financial data to enhance productivity.
