CHICAGO & DANBURY, Conn., Apr 18, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of
clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that
physicians use to improve health care, announced today that Danbury
Hospital has selected HealthMatics(R) ED Emergency Department
Information System (EDIS) to improve the quality of patient care and
hospital staff workflow. With its user-friendly features and ability
to interface with existing hospital systems, HealthMatics ED will
enhance the efficiency of patient care in the emergency department,
which is the hospital’s first major area to implement the full
electronic health record.

“HealthMatics ED delivers the patient safety improvements of
computerized physician order entry (CPOE) by improving documentation
and reducing the potential for medication error and drug and allergy
interactions,” said William Gemmell, M.D., Vice Chairman of Emergency
Medicine at Danbury Hospital. “This technology will improve the
emergency department’s ability to communicate with the patients’
primary care physicians and specialists, especially when patients need
follow-up care.”

Danbury Hospital is a 371-bed regional medical center, university
teaching hospital and Level II trauma center ranked among Solucient’s
100 Top Hospitals(R) in 2004 and 2005. With 14 board-certified
attending emergency physicians and more than 67,000 annual emergency
department visits, the hospital required an information system that
would fully integrate with their existing hospital systems, which
support EMS operations for a growing region. In order to provide
connectivity and interoperability to all of its stakeholders, the
hospital chose HealthMatics ED for its ability to reduce the amount of
paper and lost transcription costs, as well as improve coding and
billing. HealthMatics ED provides dynamic patient tracking, thorough
electronic documentation of patient information for nurses and
physicians and full integration with the hospital’s Siemens(R)
Invision HIS, and Cerner’s RadNet(R) Radiology Information and
PathNet(R) Laboratory Information systems. HealthMatics ED is one of
the solutions added to Allscripts existing portfolio after the recent
acquisition of A4 Health Systems.

“We are proud to be partnering with Danbury Hospital, one of the
leading Emergency Departments in New England,” said Glen Tullman,
Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “Danbury performed a detailed
analysis of various EDIS vendors before selecting HealthMatics ED. The
ability to connect the ambulatory and acute settings to create a
seamless patient experience is a key driver for Danbury and an
important competitive advantage for our overall suite of products.”
