Omaha-based academic faculty group to automate and connect physicians, enhancing disease management and information exchangeCHICAGO and OMAHA, Neb., Jan 7, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX) announced today that Creighton Medical Associates (CMA) has selected the Allscripts Electronic Health Record (EHR) solution to help its 228 physicians and mid-level providers enhance the quality of patient care, improve patient communications, and better manage the cost of care delivery.

CMA is a multispecialty group practice whose physicians make up the faculty of Creighton University School of Medicine. Organized in 1994, CMA providers represent 36 specialties and serve more than 100,000 patients annually at the Creighton University Medical Center campus, community-based clinics in the Omaha metropolitan area, and rural outreach clinics in Iowa and Nebraska.

“The Allscripts Electronic Health Record is a critical strategic imperative for CMA in documenting quality and improving our ability to safeguard patient safety,” said Steve Lanspa, M.D., President and Chief Medical Officer of Creighton Medical Associates. “Above all, the EHR will help us advance our mission of providing excellent, cost effective care to our patients while supporting the academic mission of Creighton University School of Medicine.”

The Allscripts Electronic Health Record enables physicians to instantly access patient information when and where they need it – in the clinic, at the hospital or while on-call at home – and automates everyday clinical tasks such as prescribing medications, documenting patient visits and obtaining best-practice guidelines for care. By tracking key patient metrics and providing automated decision support, the web-based solution helps physicians evaluate and improve their practices and enables them to deliver more effective disease management, preventive care, and long-range health maintenance.

CMA also will deploy the Allscripts Clinical Quality Solution (CQS), which draws data from the Electronic Health Record and CMA’s practice management system to automate the quality reporting requirements of government and payer-funded “pay-for-performance” programs. Pay-for-quality programs aim to lower the overall cost of healthcare by providing financial bonuses to physicians who deliver high quality care.

In addition to its reporting functionality, CQS delivers real-time clinical decision support information to physicians, improving their ability to proactively manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.

“Creighton University School of Medicine is one of the leading medical schools in the nation largely because the faculty physicians of CMA are among the best in their fields,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “By partnering with Allscripts and deploying innovations like our Clinical Quality Solution, CMA is demonstrating its commitment to further improving the quality of care they provide while also lowering the cost of delivering that care.”

Creighton selected Allscripts following an exhaustive review of other products on the market for the company’s reputation, market-leading technology and commitment to continued innovation.

“Allscripts was chosen because a large faculty selection committee felt it accommodates the teaching as well as caring missions of CMA,” said Dr. Lanspa.

Allscripts will integrate the Electronic Health Record with CMA’s existing practice management system from GE to enable CQS and connect the group’s business and clinical operations.
