CHICAGO & ROCKY HILL, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–March 9,
2006–Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical
software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use
to improve healthcare, announced today that the Connecticut
Multispecialty Group (CMG) has selected the TouchWorks(TM) Electronic
Health Record (EHR) to automate and connect their 60 physicians.
“The electronic health record will give our physicians the
information and access they need to continue to deliver the best
possible care at even a higher level,” said Robert J. Ferrini, Sr.,
Chief Executive Officer of Connecticut Multispecialty Group. “Our
mission statement is to provide compassionate medical care of the
finest quality with unfailing attention to efficient and comprehensive
treatment to all patients. The EHR will continue to improve upon the
high quality and safety of care our patients already receive.
Electronic records are quickly becoming the norm in ambulatory
healthcare because they offer so many obvious benefits for patients
and physicians alike.”
The TouchWorks Electronic Health Record is designed from the
physicians perspective, simplifying the art and science of caring for
patients. The Allscripts solution automates and speeds common clinical
activities such as prescribing medications, ordering lab tests,
viewing test results, making referrals electronically and documenting
patient visits. The system will enable CMG’s clinicians in 19
locations throughout the Hartford area to instantly access and share
patient records and other clinical information when and where they
need it – anywhere at anytime.
“Currently, when physicians, both within and outside our group,
send a patient for testing, they do not always receive a confirmation
that the patient actually went for the test until the physician
receives the results,” said Mr. Ferrini, who hopes to convince other
regional physician groups, as well as pharmacies and laboratories to
share pertinent patient information using the electronic health
record. “With Allscripts, the physician receives an automated reminder
to follow up with the patient and real-time test results right on the
clinical desktop.”
CMG’s physicians selected Allscripts after nearly three years of
evaluating the leading electronic health record vendors. “It became
clear that Allscripts was ahead of the curve in product development,
in their vision for the future, and in their expertise at rapid
implementation,” said Mr. Ferrini. “We feel they have demonstrated
success over a longer period of time than any other vendor in the
market, which bodes well for our future partnership and for our
patients who reside in the Hartford area.”
CMG will integrate TouchWorks with the IDX(R) Groupcast(TM)
revenue cycle management system from IDX. Allscripts and IDX, now a
part of GE Healthcare, share a strategic relationship that enables
users to access all financial and clinical information via a single
front-end, with efficiencies that deliver measurable financial
returns.
“We are excited that Connecticut Multispecialty Group has chosen
to partner with Allscripts to enhance the delivery of high-quality,
cost-effective care,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of
Allscripts. “The challenge in healthcare is to provide access to the
right information at the right time – at the point-of-care, during the
decision-making process. TouchWorks delivers instant access to patient
information, something you just can’t do with a paper chart across
multiple locations.”
