CHICAGO, and JONESBORO, Ark., May 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Allscripts,
the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information
solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, announced today that
Clopton Clinic has selected the company’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) and

Clopton Clinic, the largest internal medicine physician group in northeast
Arkansas, was in the first wave of physician groups to adopt electronic
medical records, in 1996. But after 12 years with the same vendor, the
physician-owned Clinic is replacing its clinical and financial automation
systems with Allscripts to improve its ability to participate in pay-for-
performance programs and clinical research, accelerate the revenue cycle, and
connect to real-time information from all key healthcare stakeholders.
“We’ve been electronic for 12 years but Allscripts will take us to the
next level with capabilities that our old system just couldn’t match,” said
Revel Porter, M.D., President of Clopton Clinic. “Whether you’re talking
disease management or true revenue cycle management, Allscripts will help
Clopton Clinic deliver on our mission of providing the highest quality,
compassionate care for the citizens of Northeast Arkansas and Southeast
Missouri.”
The Allscripts Electronic Health Record enables physicians to instantly
access patient information when and where they need it — in the clinic, at
the hospital or while on-call at home. The web-based solution speeds and
automates everyday clinical tasks such as prescribing and refilling
medications, ordering and viewing tests, and documenting care. Moving beyond
the old electronic medical record, which merely automated manual tasks, the
Allscripts Electronic Health Record provides the ability to truly transform
healthcare, with breakthroughs in connectivity including preloaded connections
to a range of medical devices, and seamless support for pay-for-performance
and quality initiatives, as well as an advanced user experience that lets
physicians easily configure the system to their own specific needs while
protecting the discrete data required for research and analysis.
The Allscripts Practice Management solution combines sophisticated
scheduling and Revenue Cycle Management tools in a single package and
incorporates advanced features such as rule-based appointment scheduling,
multi-resource and recurring appointment features, referral and eligibility
indicators, and appointment and claims management.
“Our physicians were really impressed with the wealth of information that
the EHR delivers, and how it lets them customize the way they use it to suit
their own work patterns,” said Justin Austin, Director of Clinical Information
Systems at Clopton Clinic. “Allscripts is basically a one-stop shop for
everything — from the patient portal to e-prescribing to analyzing population
health. With Allscripts, we’re eliminating eight or nine vendors, and we now
have one number to call.”
Allscripts Chief Executive Officer Glen Tullman commented, “Clopton Clinic
should be congratulated for being an early pioneer of electronic medical
records. Recently, the leadership team concluded that good wasn’t good enough
when it comes to patient safety and improving healthcare and decided to
upgrade their legacy electronic health record and practice management
solutions. Their focus moved from simply automating typical physician
behaviors to transforming the way care is delivered and offering new
opportunities like clinical trials and pay-for-performance, while actually
simplifying the support process and lowering the cost of running a medical
practice.”
As part of the Electronic Health Record implementation, Clopton Clinic
will deploy Allscripts iHealth, a personal health record service that enables
patients to make appointments, refill medications and exchange secure e-mail
with their providers via a Clinic-branded patient portal. And the Clinic will
deploy Allscripts Study Manager, providing the data tools to more easily
participate in clinical research, resulting in a new revenue stream and
advanced care options for patients.
