Knoxville-Area Hospital to Connect Emergency Department Physicians for Improved Patient Care and Efficiency
CHICAGO, and MARYVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ —
Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software,
connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve
healthcare, today announced that Blount Memorial Hospital has selected the
HealthMatics(R) ED Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) to automate
administrative and patient care processes in its Emergency Department.
The Allscripts system will integrate with existing hospital information
systems to provide enhanced communication, better management of high-risk
patients, and improved access to critical patient information both inside and
outside the hospital. Blount Memorial is a 334-bed, not-for-profit acute care
facility in Maryville, Tenn., 16 miles south of Knoxville.
“HealthMatics ED will help us enhance patient safety and satisfaction by
improving the tracking, reporting and movement of patients through the
Emergency Department,” said Richard Hall, RN, Blount Memorial’s Assistant
Administrator and Chief Nurse Executive. “We’re confident that Allscripts
will dramatically improve both the quality of care and our efficiency by
enabling physicians to see exactly where our patients are at all times, review
their charts on the computer, and order labs right at the bedside.”
HealthMatics ED https://www.allscripts.com/slnsEmrgDept.aspx electronically
streamlines processes for the entire Emergency Department, including tracking,
triage, nurse and physician charting, disposition and reporting. After nearly
five years of analyzing EDIS vendors, Blount Memorial selected HealthMatics
because it provides comprehensive functionality with a track record of success
at similar hospitals across the country.
“This is a system that is intuitive and doesn’t make you change the way
you practice medicine — it was clearly designed with a physician’s
perspective and fits with the way we provide care in the Emergency
Department,” said Debbie Teffeteller, RN, Clinical Director of the Emergency
Department. “Most important of all, Allscripts offers real support from a
company with lots of successful, live implementations, which gives us the
confidence that we have a partner we can depend on.”
Blount Memorial will connect HealthMatics ED with its existing SERIES
2000(TM) health information system from McKesson, enabling full
interoperability of all clinical and financial information within the
hospital.
Community physicians outside the hospital will be able to access Emergency
Department records for their patients through Blount’s community-wide
physician portal, which links to HealthMatics ED. That connectivity enables
ambulatory physicians to quickly determine the treatment and medications their
patients received in the Emergency Department.
“HealthMatics ED provides physicians inside and outside the hospital with
the clinical information they need to make informed care decisions, without
relying upon their patients, who may be unclear or inaccurate in recalling
their medical history or the treatment they received,” said Glen Tullman,
Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “We are proud to partner with Blount
Memorial Hospital to connect and inform physicians, giving them the tools they
need to make the best treatment decisions for their patients.”
