Medical Center Gains Competitive Advantage by Providing 200 Physicians Access To Leading-Edge Wireless Technology for Dictating Notes and Capturing Charges

Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of point-of-care
decision support tools for physicians, announced today that Baptist Health
Systems (Baptist) selected TouchWorks(TM) clinical applications for inpatient
care at the Baptist Medical Center. Baptist purchased 200 licenses for
TouchWorks Dictate(TM) to streamline the clinical dictation and transcription
process, and a limited number of additional licenses for TouchWorks Charge(TM)
to automate the charge capture process and reduce the number of lost charges for
physicians. Baptist will work with Allscripts to expand the center’s existing
wireless network and make these applications available to physicians on the
Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC while on site at the Baptist Medical Center.

TouchWorks applications have historically been utilized in the outpatient
setting, but use in the inpatient setting is beginning to grow. Baptist Medical
Center is one of the first healthcare facilities to use TouchWorks applications
to improve physician productivity and efficiency in this manner. Physicians who
visit patients or make rounds at Baptist Medical Center will “check-out” a
handheld device, pre-loaded with their schedule for the day and the location of
their patients, and then use it to dictate clinical documentation and record
professional charges. The dictations will be transmitted through the medical
center’s wireless network, electronically routed to an outsourced transcription
service, and returned. Professional charges recorded on the device will be
transmitted through the medical center’s network and stored on a dedicated
server that the physician’s billing staff will access via a secure connection.
Baptist expects the Allscripts applications will streamline physician workflow
and significantly enhance individual physician productivity.

“Leading-edge technology from TouchWorks gives Baptist an advantage in our
highly competitive market, where medical facilities do not directly employ
physicians and several major medical facilities compete for the attention of
physicians,” commented Rick Caldwell, Vice President and Chief Information
Officer of Baptist Health Systems. “By empowering physicians with advanced tools
to improve their efficiency at Baptist Medical Center, we will continue to be
the facility of choice in our market.”

Baptist expects that physicians will be very quick to adopt this technology,
says Caldwell, who added that the large number of physicians requesting these
applications contributed to Baptist’s decision to purchase the technology. “Some
physicians are already asking, ‘What else can we get?'” noted Caldwell. As more
physicians adopt this technology, Baptist has the option to integrate additional
TouchWorks modules and offer more benefits to the physicians and patients who
chose Baptist.

“As physicians practicing at Baptist facilities realize the greater efficiency
that results from these applications in the inpatient environment, they will be
more likely to choose Baptist,” commented Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer
of Allscripts Healthcare Solutions. “We expect Baptist will add additional
clinical modules to further increase the quality and safety of patient care
while at the same time improving physician efficiency.”
