DALLAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb. 14, 2005–From the floor of the 2005
HIMSS (Healthcare Information Management Systems Society) Annual
Conference and Exposition, Allscripts Healthcare Solutions
(Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of connectivity and information
solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced
TouchWorks(TM) iHealth, a new solution that provides consumers secure
online access to their own personal health record and online
consultations with their physician. The comprehensive iHealth solution
integrates Allscripts’ award-winning TouchWorks EHR (electronic health
record) with Medem, Inc., the premier physician-patient communications
network, founded and governed by the nation’s leading medical
societies.
TouchWorks iHealth will help meet the growing demand for
electronic personal health records, which have recently become a top
priority for leaders throughout government and industry. Fueling that
movement, in July 2004 the Bush Administration released a
comprehensive plan to encourage the adoption of health information
technologies, including a strategy to ‘personalize care’ by enabling
consumers to become more involved in managing their health and
wellness. A key component of the strategy is to encourage the use of a
personal health record, providing consumers real-time and secure
access to their health information as well as customized guidance from
their physician to enhance their care.
TouchWorks iHealth provides a standards-based personal health
record, automated patient education programs that help patients adhere
to their care plans and medication regimens and the ability for
patients to request medication refills and review lab results.
Consumers using the solution also will be able to conduct secure
online consultations with their physicians — a service that extends
the reach of physicians, enhancing the quality of care.
“In order to truly improve health outcomes, patients need to be
part of the care team and have more seamless access to information and
their physician,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of
Allscripts. “This functionality is a critical component of our
TouchWorks EHR, enabling physicians to more efficiently connect to
their patients outside the four walls of the clinic and to enhance the
level of service they provide while at the same time improving the
quality of care.”
TouchWorks iHealth is based on the time-tested Medem platform of
services, which provides HIPAA-compliant secure email, Online
Consultation software, and trusted, award-winning clinical content
from 45 of America’s leading medical societies.
Allscripts will demonstrate the TouchWorks iHealth solution at the
2005 Annual HIMSS Conference and Exhibition, the world’s largest
healthcare information technology conference, which takes place in
Dallas, February 13 to 17.
