TAMPA, Fla. & CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 6, 2003–Gold Standard
Multimedia (GSM) today announced that it has signed an agreement with
Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of
point-of-care decision support solutions for physicians, to integrate
GSM’s award-winning Clinical Pharmacology drug information content
into AHS’ popular handheld TouchWorks(TM) Pocket Library(TM) Drug
Guide. Clinical Pharmacology replaces three of the Pocket Library’s
previous drug reference titles — Drug Guide, Geriatric Drug Guide,
and Pediatric Drug Guide — arming physicians with a comprehensive,
unified drug guide resource to save time, eliminate medication errors,
enhance patient care, and improve clinical outcomes. Pocket Library is
a component of the TouchWorks modular electronic medical record
(mEMR(TM)).
Via Clinical Pharmacology’s drug data, Drug Guide provides its
users with current, peer-reviewed, clinically-relevant information on
all commonly prescribed U.S. prescription drugs, as well as
hard-to-find herbal supplements, nutritional and over-the-counter
products, non-FDA approved indications, and dosing information for
pediatric, adult, geriatric, pregnant, hepatic and renally impaired
patients. To increase Drug Guide’s searching capabilities and clinical
usefulness, medication information can be accessed by physicians in a
variety of ways, including alphabetically by generic and brand name,
indication, contraindication, therapeutic class, pharmaceutical
supplement, and most recently viewed information.
Each monograph provides physicians with a broad scope of critical
information during the patient encounter, such as brand and generic
drug names, drug description, indications/dosage, maximum dosage
limits, specialized dosage and pregnancy/lactation information,
contraindications, administration, interactions, adverse reactions,
costs, and monitoring parameters. Drug Guide takes advantage of the
Pocket Library’s superior navigation feature, providing links within
Drug Guide to other related materials, as well as between Drug Guide
and other Pocket Library offerings, including the Physician’s
Information and Education Resource (PIER) from The American College of
Physicians – American Society of Internal Medicine.
“Our drug information offering, Clinical Pharmacology, was
conceived and developed around the belief that healthcare outcomes can
be improved by providing clinicians with timely, accurate,
clinically-relevant drug data during the decision-making process,”
stated Russell Thomas, CEO of Gold Standard Multimedia. “Allscripts
follows this same philosophy, which made it an ideal union for our
companies to combine these two quality products to form a
quick-acting, high performance clinical drug reference that enhances
physician productivity and improves clinical outcomes,” said Thomas.
