DALLAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb. 15, 2005–From the floor of the 2005
HIMSS (Healthcare Information Management Systems Society) Annual
Conference and Exposition, Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq:
MDRX), the leading provider of connectivity and information solutions
that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced their
participation in a major collaborative event that will demonstrate
electronic exchange of patient information between the leading
healthcare information technology vendors.

Allscripts will demonstrate the ability of the award-winning
TouchWorks(TM) electronic health record (EHR) to interoperate and
connect with other healthcare information technology solutions – a
capability that is crucial to linking clinicians to a seamless,
cross-continuum patient health record spanning both ambulatory and
inpatient settings across the nation. Cross-continuum exchange of
patient information is vital to the development of regional health
information organizations (RHIOs) that serve as building blocks of the
national health information network (NHIN) proposed by President Bush
and David Brailer, MD, the National Coordinator for Health Information
Technology.

“Healthcare has been practiced in silos for too long. Electronic
health records offer the ability to bridge the gaps between patients,
providers, and other key stakeholders,” said Glen Tullman, Chief
Executive Officer of Allscripts. “Allscripts turns this vision into a
reality with connectivity that enables physicians to efficiently
access and effectively leverage information from a variety of sources
and systems across the continuum of care. Interoperability will also
broaden the range of choices among physician groups, allowing them to
select the best systems for each challenge and not feeling captive to
the single-solution approach.”

Allscripts will participate in both the Distributed Demo and the
Ambulatory Care Showcase. The Ambulatory Care Showcase will
demonstrate interoperability across a variety of settings, including a
free-standing diagnostic clinic, a multi-specialty clinic, a small
practice and the patient’s home. Use cases will guide the attendee
through the settings in the normal course of care, highlighting
interoperability. The Allscripts demonstration within the showcase
will focus on TouchWorks’ ability to support the emerging Continuity
of Care Record (CCR) industry standard.

The CCR is being developed and enhanced by a coalition of industry
organizations in response to the need to organize and make
transportable a set of basic information consisting of the most
relevant and timely facts about a patient’s condition. The ultimate
goal of the CCR is to ensure that healthcare providers do not have to
search for or guess about a patient’s vital healthcare information.

Industry organizations collaborating on the CCR standards include
including ASTM International, the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS),
HIMSS and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).

As part of the Distributed Demo, Allscripts will demonstrate the
cross-enterprise interoperability of TouchWorks, including the
exchange of continuity of care records, and viewing of clinical
information such as radiology images, laboratory results, and
cardiology reports. Attendees will be able to create and manage their
own virtual health record and then visit other vendor exhibit booths
to access their records and see how different companies incorporate
CCR – and thus interoperability – into their products.

The 2005 Annual HIMSS Conference and Exhibition, which takes place
in Dallas from February 13 to 17, is the world’s largest healthcare
information technology conference.
