In addition to Mr. Tullman’s address, five Allscripts clients will deliver
presentations at the prestigious WHCC conference, which is co-sponsored by the
Wall Street Journal and each year attracts thousands of executives from
healthcare, pharmaceutical and managed care companies, as well as government
leaders who gather to formulate solutions to the escalating challenges of
delivering high quality, cost-effective patient care.
“In the search for solutions to our nation’s healthcare crisis, there is
nearly universal agreement that information technology holds the key,” said
Mr. Tullman, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the National ePrescribing
Patient Safety Initiative, a $100 million campaign to eliminate medication
errors by offering free electronic prescribing to every physician in America.
“Allscripts is convinced that by providing physicians, patients, payers and
other key stakeholders with the critical information they need, when they need
it, we can indeed transform healthcare and deliver on the promise of higher
quality care delivered more cost effectively.”
Following Mr. Tullman’s address on Monday afternoon, he will moderate a
discussion on the transformative power of information technology, with panel
members:
-- Michael Critelli, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pitney Bowes, Inc. -- Linda Dillman, Executive Vice President of Risk Management, Benefits and Sustainability (and formerly Chief Information Officer) for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. -- William Winkenwerder, Jr., MD, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, the U.S. Department of Defense -- Brent C. James, MD, Vice President for Medical Research and Executive Director of the Institute for Health Care Delivery Research, Intermountain Healthcare.
Earlier on Monday, Mr. Tullman will introduce Stephen L. Badger, Chief
Executive Officer of The George Washington University Medical Faculty
Associates, an Allscripts client and one of the country’s most sophisticated
users of Electronic Health Records, who is chairing the Congress’s “Group
Practice CEO/Medical Director Summit.” The Summit features 16 executives and
physicians from medical groups across the nation who will meet to share
success stories and questions on a variety of issues relevant to physician
practices, including engaging physicians in technology adoption;
pay-for-performance strategies; innovations in quality improvement; and best
practices for implementing Electronic Health Records.
The Group Practice CEO/Medical Director Summit, which runs Monday through
Tuesday, includes four Allscripts clients in addition to Mr. Badger:
-- Jim Morrow, MD, Vice President of North Fulton Family Medicine in Cumming, GA, who was recently named the Physician IT Leader of the Year by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) -- Jerry Miller, MD, President and Founder of Holston Medical Group in Kingsport, TN and the chair of Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen's ePrescribing Commission -- C.R. Burke, Chief Executive Officer of St. Joseph Heritage Healthcare in Anaheim, CA, recognized by CNN as one of the leaders in using electronic technology to improve healthcare -- Stephen Klasko, MD, Dean of the University of South Florida College of Medicine and Vice President of the USF Physicians Group, in Tampa, FL, who is leading the expansion of the USF group to fully automate the future of healthcare.
