WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dec. 9, 2005–Allscripts
(Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity
and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare,
today announced that the TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record was
awarded first place in the Technology for the Improvement of Patient
Outcomes category, during The Emerging Technologies and Healthcare
Innovations Congress (TETHIC) Conference in Washington, D.C.
The TETHIC Industry Awards are designed to recognize companies for
their excellence and advancement in implementing innovative clinical
and health information technologies that improve patient care. The
Technology for the Improvement of Patient Outcomes Award honors
Allscripts for the incorporation of clinical trials automation into
their Electronic Health Record to benefit both patients and medical
groups.
By leveraging the Allscripts Electronic Health Record, Holston
Medical Group (HMG) of Kingsport, Tennessee has developed one of the
nations most successful and profitable clinical research programs run
by a multi-specialty group practice. In one year, the 102-provider
group used the EHR to generate more than $2.5 million in revenue by
enrolling patients in clinical trials focused on new medications and
medical devices. As one of the nation’s earliest adopters of an
electronic health record, HMG has long been recognized for its
innovative use of technology for disease management and wellness
initiatives with major employers in their region.
“We congratulate Allscripts for their ongoing commitment to
innovation and for receiving this well deserved award,” said Jerry
Miller, MD, Medical Director and President of Holston Medical Group.
“It wouldn’t be possible for a group our size to run a clinical
research program without TouchWorks. Our staff can rapidly generate
queries and list prospective patients, enabling us to make clinical
trials available to patients in a manner that just wasn’t possible
before. This also benefits pharmaceutical companies as we are able to
work with them to more efficiently and more cost effectively to
identify prospective patients for trials.”
TETHIC provides healthcare executives with the industry’s leading
conference that addresses the impact and promise of technology and
innovation on the future of healthcare. This year, more than 50
organizations submitted applications for the 2005 TETHIC Industry
Awards.
“Allscripts is honored to have received first place in the
Technology for the Improvement of Patient Outcomes category,” said
Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “While we are the
recipient of this award, we share it with our more than 1,500 clients
who continue to break new ground in leveraging the Electronic Health
Record as a tool to transform healthcare and improve patient care.”
In 2003, TETHIC awarded Allscripts with the Most Innovative
Information Technology for Physicians Practices Award.
