SALT LAKE CITY–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 18, 2005–From the floor of
the 2005 TEPR Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, Allscripts
Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical
software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use
to improve healthcare announced today the launch of TouchChart(TM), an
Electronic Health Record (EHR) designed for the unique needs of small,
independent physician practices.
Allscripts has established itself as the leader in the electronic
health record market with its flagship TouchWorks(TM) EHR solution,
consistently receiving awards and establishing a customer base of many
of the leading mid to large size medical groups in the country. In
response to the significant national push, led by Dr. David Brailer,
the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, to bring
the electronic health record into the hands of small, independent
physician practices, Allscripts has developed a new solution,
TouchChart, for the unique needs of these practices.
TouchChart is built upon the solid foundation of Allscripts
award-winning document imaging and management solution, formerly known
as Impact.MD. It offers a modular approach to implementation, enabling
medical groups to quickly gain physician adoption and realize a rapid
return on investment. For example, practices can either start with a
module, such as document imaging, and then add functionality over
time, or implement the full EHR.
“In launching TouchChart, Allscripts has clearly taken a very
effective Impact.MD application, which we have used very successfully
since 1999, to the next level,” stated Susan Miller, Practice
Administrator at Family Practice Associates of Lexington, Kentucky.
“The modular approach is critical as it has enabled our conversion to
an electronic health record to be a simple process.”
The more than 300 medical groups across the country that use
Impact.MD will have the opportunity to upgrade to TouchChart version
3.3 and access additional EHR functionality. The application will be
available via both a direct sales force and a value-added reseller
(VAR) network.
“It is our belief that every physician should have access to a
full electronic health record,” stated Glen Tullman, Chief Executive
Officer of Allscripts. “With the launch of TouchChart, Allscripts is
opening up the door for small, independent physician practices to
access this technology and benefit from the information and
connectivity, which is so critical to treating patients in a quality
and cost-effective fashion.”
