International Women’s Day 2022: Celebrating women everywhere

Today at Allscripts we are once again celebrating International Women’s Day. This annual, global event began in 1911 and honors women’s social, economic, cultural and political achievements; it is also a movement to fight for gender equality worldwide.

There’s still much to be done in order to reach global gender equality, especially in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. According to a Georgetown University study, for every 100 female students working toward a bachelor’s degree, only three will work in a STEM job 10 years after graduation.

As such, Allscripts is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the American Heart Association – Triangle’s STEM Goes Red program. STEM Goes Red brings careers in the STEM fields to life for young women by giving students access to leading employers and experts. STEM Goes Red attendees gain firsthand experience, connect with inspiring professionals and learn about jobs across STEM fields. I am proud to say that three Allscripts associates are currently leading this initiative as part of the STEM Goes Red steering committee. Thank you, Monica Sokolove (who serves as the Chair), Cynthia Daniels-Williams and Nicole Penfield, for giving your time and talent to inspire the next generation of brilliant female leaders and innovators in STEM.

Allscripts is also proud to sponsor the Triangle’s Go Red for Women program. This is the American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiative, designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. I am delighted to say that our Senior Vice President of Global Human Resources, Lisa Hammond, is serving as the program’s chair in 2022.

I am thrilled by our work outside of Allscripts to support women around the globe. However, on this day dedicated to honoring women, I also want to use this opportunity to turn inward and highlight some of the amazing women leaders here at Allscripts. These inspiring women contribute to our success every day and I am honored to work alongside them.
