Clients speak: Getting more from your existing EHR

Packed schedules and long days make it hard to consider carving out time for electronic health record (EHR) optimization. But several Allscripts clients recently spoke with us about their experiences with the Professional Education and Optimization Program (also referred to as E&O), and for them it was time well spent.

Here are the top six reasons given for investing in EHR education and optimization:

1. We focused on how we were able to improve as a practice, how we were able to improve on our patient care, and also how we were able to improve on our documentation…It increases patient satisfaction.”

Natalie Blevins, Clinical Nursing Supervisor

Casper Orthopedic Associates, PC, Casper, Wyoming, U.S.A.

2. [Providers] understand how to use the system. Before…they didn’t want to use their computers and relied heavily on their medical assistants and nurses to do a lot work for them, because they just weren’t comfortable using the system… Now when updates come out, we’re excited to move forward with them and see how that’s going to change our practice for the better.”

3. “Having the E&O Program come in and recognize where we could make a little bit more profit and revenue was really important for our practice.”

Lauren Peterson, Physician Assistant

Open Cities Health Center, St. Paul, Minnesota, U.S.A

4. “Because of E&O, the data that’s there has a lot more credibility to it. There’s some backing that allows me to say I know that we’re doing this process the right way.”

 5. “Our providers spend less time documenting and transfer that time to the patient…It has improved our quality measures. We are still doing everything we were doing in the past, but now we’re documenting them in the correct way. Without the E&O program, I don’t think we would be doing that.”

6. “Two years in, we’re already excited to do another three years [with Allscripts E&O]. Let’s sign up again, let’s keep moving forward and not fall behind like we had in the past.”
