Cubs Healthcare Professionals Night 2019 hits it out of the park

Innovation is driven by collaboration with a wide constituency. From clinicians to technology partners and patients, we all must work together to solve the right problems.

At the end of the day, successful Health Information Technology innovation focuses on the health needs of your family member, neighbor or co-worker.

That’s one reason Allscripts sponsored Healthcare Professionals Night at Chicago’s Wrigley Field for the second consecutive year on Tuesday, June 4. We’re interested in great ideas wherever we can find them, even at a Cubs baseball game!

The event had a three-part agenda: The First Pitch Competition, a networking reception and the Cubs-Rockies ballgame.

The First Pitch Competition provided health technology start-up businesses the opportunity to pitch their innovations to Allscripts. Allscripts is always looking for solutions that complement ours, expand our partnerships and solve our clients’ problems. We believe that when you change what is possible, you change everything.

First Pitch Competition

We welcomed representatives from eight Chicago-based startups who pitched their solutions to Allscripts leadership for a chance to be included in the Allscripts Developer Program (ADP). Participants included Blueprint, CareBand, Lytic, Pangea Medical, Stitch Mix, Steamd, Timedoc Health and Vynca.

Judges on the panel included Allscripts Sales Operations Senior Vice President Leah Jones, MATTER Partnership Manager Rachel Lund, Allscripts President Rick Poulton, Allscripts CEO Paul Black, Allscripts ambulatory business unit Senior Vice President & General Manager Steve Lalonde and Coker Group’s Jeffery Daigrepont.

Each startup was given five minutes to pitch a solution, followed by five minutes of Q&A with the judges. After the presentations, the judges selected one runner-up and one winner.

Winner: Vynca

Vynca CEO Ryan Van Wert, MD, presented his company’s comprehensive SaaS-based solution for advance care planning that addresses critical unmet needs in end-of-life care by aligning patient preference with patient care. This EHR-integrated solution guides advance care planning conversations, enables legally valid electronic completion (including eSignature) of advance care plans and provides one-click access to these plans in the time of an emergency.

As a single source of truth across the care continuum, Vynca helps patients and healthcare providers navigate the complex process of advance care planning. By engaging and empowering patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers, Vynca ensures personalized, end-of-life care can be provided to every patient, every time.

As the winner of the 2019 First Pitch Competition, Vynca received waived fees for the ADP program, Allscripts-branded Cubs hats, a plaque and tickets and pregame access to a future Cubs game.

Runner-up: CareBand

CareBand CEO Adam Sobol presented his company’s behavior analytics and wander management solution for senior living communities. Built for seniors living with dementia, CareBand provides real-time indoor and outdoor location tracking without WiFi or cellular signal, a nurse-call button and AI-based analysis of activity patterns to help caregivers identify early changes in condition. CareBand enables seniors living with dementia to remain safe and provides peace of mind for caregivers and families.

As runner-up, CareBand received waived fees for the ADP program as well as Allscripts-branded Cubs hats.

Congratulations to all the innovators who pitched their ideas! We work with partners like these because we share a commitment to flexible solutions rather than abiding by the oh-so-common “one-size-fits-all” mentality—not just for patients and families but for the doctors and staff taking care of them.
