Top 10 client stories of 2017

When I look back over the past year, I’m inspired most by what our clients are accomplishing. Their innovations are leading the change in healthcare. 

As a trusted partner of many leading healthcare organizations around the world, Allscripts is often honored to be a part of the major improvements our clients achieve in delivering care to their patients. Patients are at the center of what we do every day—and our clients’ success is our success.

There are countless stories of how these achievements are advancing healthcare. Each year we publish a list of the most-read, most-shared client stories on our blog. Here are the top 10 for 2017:

1) Multiple integration projects: One open API – New care models require health IT infrastructure that can interact with multiple solutions, devices and applications in a more streamlined, scalable and efficient way. Application Programming Interfaces  (APIs) can help create a successful health IT ecosystem. NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP), a nonprofit university hospital based in New York City, started using open APIs to achieve interoperability in 2014.

2) Israel: A case study in national connectivity for better health – The desire to aggregate patient information from disparate sources, do it quickly and present it in a way that made sense to caregivers gave rise to the Ofek Network, powered by the Allscripts dbMotion™ Solution, across Clalit Health Services (Tel Aviv, Israel). Featured in a new case study, this health network connects multiple organizations and disparate systems that serve Israel’s 8.3 million residents.

3) Clients speak: Why they invest in revenue cycle management solutions – A recent analyst report expects that revenue cycle management solutions will continue to expand among small physician practices. Clients share their most compelling reasons about the value they find in this technology.

4) Holston Medical Group (HMG) takes patient-centered, data-drive approach to care – HMG helped form a physician-led Accountable Care Organization (ACO), Qualuable Medical Professionals, and a healthcare transformation company, OnePartner, which includes a private health information exchange (HIE). HMG innovations include the Extensivist Clinic, offering acute intervention in an ambulatory setting, and piloting data-driven projects, such as increasing pneumococcal vaccination rates.

5) Northwell Health innovates to solve clinical challenges – Northwell Health received an innovation award for continuing to find better ways to use technology to solve clinical challenges. For example, an elegant Clinical Snapshot dashboard enables clinicians to use an abundance of quality data. And, using open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), Northwell Health designed a solution that enables clinicians to see patient event notifications within their electronic health record (EHR) workflow, which enables better care coordination.

6) 7 challenges when organizations own patient data – As the healthcare industry shifts to a new mindset – that patients instead of organizations should own their data – we look for examples of this approach in practice. Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) believes patients should have greater responsibility for their own electronic health record (EHR) information, and now enables patients to modify their own records.

7) How one hospital successfully overhauled care management – Care coordination is at the epicenter of the healthcare industry’s shift to value-based care. Holyoke Medical Center (Holyoke, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) successfully redesigned its function to a more unified approach that improved care coordination ratings within just six months.

8) First “vanguard” site in UK delivering integrated care – As government in the UK moves social care nearer to health care provision our National Health Service (NHS) trusts are looking at broader programs and ways to deliver holistic interventions for patients. Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust (Salford, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom) is part of a local partnership, Salford Together, which is bringing together health care and social care into a new, unified model.

9) Online scheduling improves patient engagement, satisfaction – Some health systems are ahead of the curve and are successfully offering scheduling and other options that help enable patients to take control of their health. In a recent success story, Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group (San Diego, California, U.S.A.) shares its experience with the Allscripts FollowMyHealth® patient engagement platform.

10) Quality care in a nutshell – Methodist Hospital of Southern California is achieving exceptional performance in patient safety. Chief Medical Officer and Patient Safety Officer Dr. Bala Chandrasekhar said, “Patients essentially want three things from their hospitals: don’t hurt me, heal me and be nice to me. And they want them in that order.”
