Getting rid of paperwork with Phreesia

As an informed patient and parent taking kids to the pediatrician, nothing makes me more frustrated than staff handing me a stack of papers on a clipboard with a pen tied to it with a string. I have the same insurance, same address, same everything — so why do I need to handwrite this information over and over again?

Paper continues to plague medical practices, particularly in billing and administrative processes. Patients and administrative staff are overwhelmed with paperwork and increasingly complex documentation requirements. And it causes a delay in payment, too. According to the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), it takes practices an average of 3.3 billing statements before a patient’s outstanding balance is paid in full.

There is a better way to get all the information my doctors need in an efficient, modern way. I know that I could see information about my co-pay and be able to ask questions right there before the visit even begins.  I know Phreesia can help solve all these pain points and more and am so happy to have them as partners in Allscripts Developer Program.

How Phreesia eliminated 30 million pieces of paper (and counting)

Phreesia, a point-of-service application, processes millions of healthcare transactions for Allscripts clients. In the past year we’ve worked together, Phreesia has eliminated more than 30 million pieces of paper, collected over $100 million in patient responsibility payments and saved more than $30 million in denied claims for Allscripts customers.

Throughout each office visit, Phreesia helps medical practices engage patients and increase efficiency:

Self-service registration and data collection – Patients check in with the portable, self-service PhreesiaPad, while office staff monitor patient traffic electronically from the Phreesia Dashboard. Phreesia prompts patients for missing data and relevant assessments to ensure compliance with HIPAA, Meaningful Use Stage 1 and Stage 2 objectives. Physicians can then reference a complete FACE sheet when they’re with patients. Mobile capabilities enable flexible payment options and additional resources for patient engagement beyond the waiting room.

Integration streamlines data entry – Phreesia’s integration with Allscripts enables the seamless flow of information between systems, eliminates redundant data entry and maximizes administrative efficiencies. In fact, Phreesia is the first certified partner to support integrations with both Allscripts Professional EHRTM and Allscripts Practice ManagementTMas part of the Allscripts Developer Program.

Accurate payment information – Phreesia automatically presents patients with their correct copay and any open balance as they check in on the PhreesiaPad. It offers a range of flexible payment options that reduce barriers to payment, including automated payment plans, online payments and card-on-file opportunities. Pheesia streamlines the revenue cycle management process with real-time payment posting into Allscripts, electronic reconciliation reports and analytics.

Real-time insurance and deductible detail – Electronic insurance verification helps practices avoid denied insurance claims and monthly write-offs. Phreesia pulls daily schedules directly from Practice Management, and with one click, provides a benefits summary for every patient. It can also drill into important benefits detail for each patient, such as remaining deductible amounts. The Phreesia Dashboard enables staff to track patient eligibility status in real time, and immediately alerts them of patients who are not covered.

Patient communication – Phreesia gives medical organizations the tools to comply with regulations that require them to provide additional resources for patient communication. Through the Patient Communication Service—including monthly educational newsletters, practice announcements and post-visit emails—practices can stay connected with patients even outside of the office, thereby increasing patient satisfaction and retention.

Recently named the No. 1 patient check-in kiosk by third-party research firm KLAS, Phreesia serves over 1,500 facilities in more than 50 specialties across all 50 states, and is used in more than two million patient encounters each month. Customers report a rapid return on investment, realizing an average cash flow increase of 10%, and saving front-office staff 3-10 minutes per patient.
