Care Planning and Patient Education
CarePlan is an order selection method that allows the physician
to create a comprehensive set of prescriptions, orders, and
patient instructions in a fraction of the time it would take
to do manually. This is critical, because computerized physician
order entry has traditionally been a challenge in the physician
workflow. Care plans contain the appropriate medications, orders,
instructions, referral suggestions, and health maintenance
or disease management elements for the specific disease and
clinical presentation.
Benefits
- Physician groups and individual physicians may modify these
templates to suit local preferences.
- A set of commonly used orders can be set as the default
for any given clinical presentation (e.g. asthma, moderately
severe, in a child), so even complex diagnostic or treatment
plans can be created in seconds.
- Once a care plan is created, it not only automatically
communicates prescriptions and orders, it posts information
to the note; updates the problem, medication, and active
orders lists; and generates customized patient instructions.
