Understanding Allscripts ED

Achieve Meaningful Use with Allscripts ED

Allscripts ED helps you get there—in compliance with the final rule on meaningful use for information technology. Because the ED is now included in the rules applying to meaningful use, your hospital ED can leverage electronic health record (EHR) technology to capitalize on incentives.

Meaningful use criteria examples:

  • Allscripts ED allows emergency departments to capture 100 percent medication orders electronically in the emergency department.

Meaningful use criteria: Hospitals and physicians must use Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) for at least 30 percent of their medication orders.
  • Allscripts ED provides 100 percent discharge instructions electronically.

Meaningful use criteria: More than 50% of patients discharged from an inpatient or emergency department of a hospital who request an electronic copy of their discharge instructions must be provided with it.
  • Allscripts ED provides an encounter summary to patients.
